Selja asks govt to improve sports, transport facilities in Sirsa
Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has taken two major initiatives to address key issues affecting the people of her constituency. She has written letters to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging them to take immediate action on sports infrastructure and public transport.
In a letter to Saini, Kumari Selja highlighted the poor condition of the Chaudhary Dalbir Singh Stadium in Sirsa. She pointed out that the gym inside the stadium was shut down, and its equipment damaged. The youth and athletes of Sirsa had raised the issue with her during her visit on February 9, requesting the reopening of the gym. They also suggested that if the gym was restored, some young trainers would voluntarily provide free training to children.
Additionally, Selja urged the CM to establish gyms and e-libraries for underprivileged children in urban areas. While some villages had received government-funded gyms, urban poor children lacked access to such facilities. She also emphasised the need for e-libraries at important locations, especially to benefit girls from economically weaker sections.
Selja said the Chaudhary Dalbir Singh Indoor Stadium, inaugurated in 1996, was once a key venue for national-level sports competitions. However, due to the lack of maintenance, it was no longer suitable for training and events. Selja has requested the state government to take necessary steps to restore and upgrade the stadium.
In another letter addressed to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Selja raised concerns about the lack of a morning train from Sirsa to Delhi. She stated that earlier, the Bathinda-Delhi Kisan Express used to reach Kalanwali at 7:40 am, but now its timing had changed to 5:40 am, making it inconvenient for passengers. Similarly, the Shri Ganganagar-Meerut Express, which previously arrived at Kalanwali at 6 am, still maintained the same schedule. However, the passengers travelling from Kalanwali to Sirsa now had to wait until 1:30 pm for the next available train. Due to the change, students, working professionals and daily commuters were forced to rely on expensive and time-consuming bus travel. To address the issue, Selja had requested the Railways Ministry to introduce a train at 8 am, ensuring convenience for the students and job seekers.
