In a statement, Selja questioned whether the threat was part of “a larger conspiracy” against the Congress leader. “Is the BJP trying to normalise the politics of violence and fear?” she asked, criticising the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, which she described as a “possible sign of approval.”
She alleged that the government was resorting to threats instead of accountability. “Since the government refuses to answer, Rahul Gandhi is raising these questions before the people, and that is what is making the BJP nervous,” she said.
Selja demanded immediate action against the BJP spokesperson and a public apology from the party leadership. Recalling the sacrifices of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, she said any threat to Rahul Gandhi was a threat to democracy itself.
“Rahul Gandhi is fearlessly challenging the RSS-BJP ideology. These threats will only strengthen his resolve,” she asserted, vowing that the Congress would continue its fight for democracy at every level.
