Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has criticised the Haryana BJP government for being unfair to long-serving contractual and HKRN employees. She said many of these workers had been serving for 10 to 15 years, but the government was now refusing to make them permanent.

She pointed out that several of them were now over the age limit for applying for other jobs and removing them instead of regularising their services was unjust. Selja urged the government to offer relief to them by confirming their jobs rather than pushing them out.

She also raised concern over the government’s decision to exclude contractual employees of state universities under the recently passed Service Security Act. The Act was supposed to provide job security to 1.18 lakh temporary employees, but now its scope is being limited. Selja said the exclusion was discriminatory and a serious blow to those who had supported the education system for years. She emphasised that the university employees play a key role in ensuring quality education and deserve to be protected, not sidelined.

Selja expressed disappointment in the BJP’s false promises made during the elections and accused the government of ignoring public needs after coming to power. She said the state’s education system was also suffering due to the lack of financial support and demanded a special financial package to improve conditions at universities.

She also condemned the police lathi-charge on peaceful SSC candidates and teachers protesting at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. According to her, young people were demanding jobs and justice but were met with violence, which showed the government’s disregard for democracy and youth welfare. Selja said the Congress would continue to stand firmly with workers and fight for their rights.
