Seminar on plant physiology

Karnal:The ICAR- Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Regional Centre, Karnal, organised one-day north zonal seminar on inter-disciplinary research strategies for climate resilient agriculture in association with Indian Society for Plant Physiology (ISPP). More than 200 scientists, researchers, students from across state participated. Chief guest Dr G Hema Prabha, Director of the ICAR- SBI, Coimbatore, highlighted the importance of plant physiology in changing climate scenario to explore the various adaptive mechanisms in imparting tolerance against abiotic stresses. Dr S K Pandey, head of the Regional Centre spoke about the institute and the latest high sugar-yielding varieties. In the Plenary session, Dr Anita Mann, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CSSRI, Karnal, proposed the identification of new model plants for abiotic stresses and specifically for salinity.

Training on soft skills completed

Kaithal: A two-month training programme on soft skills in banking sector by the Department of Commerce, RKSD College, Kaithal, concluded. In this programme, 30 students of Commerce Department were trained about banking facilitators and correspondents in the banking sector (BCBF). Chief General Manager, Haryana Regional Office of Nabard Bank from Chandigarh, Deepa Guha was the special guest. Officiating principal Satbir Mehla welcomed the chief guest. Guha in her address stressed upon the students to take advantage of this training and find employment opportunities in the field of banking and develop soft skills which would prove to be helpful to the students in their career development in future.

Scholarship for poor students

Gurugram: To ensure a bright future for students who are unable to complete their studies due to financial constraints, Gurugram University has provided scholarship to such students on behalf of the Vishwa Prakash Mission, a youth charitable Trust, which works to improve the lives of deserving students from low-income families. Five university students were chosen for this scholarship scheme, including three B Pharma students — Anjali, Mainu, and Jaydev — and two MBA students — Neetu Yadav and Kirti Gandhi. GU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Kumar praised the mission’s efforts to financially assist meritorious students in their studies through scholarships.

Online video speech competition

Hisar: The Speakathon Club under the mentorship of the training and placement cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, organised the 24th episode of ‘Azadi Amritmahotsav Series’ in form of “Online Video Speech Competition” to commemorate the 75th Year of India’s Independence. This time, the theme of competition was based on the cooperation of Indian women freedom fighters. All students enthusiastically participated in the event. Partap Singh Malik, director of training and placement cell shared that this Aazadi Amrit Mahotsav Series was started on May 12 2021 and will continue till August 15, 2022. Dr Aditya Vir Singh, assistant director of training and placement cell, informed that Tushar got first, Lalit Kumar second and Pooja Narwal got third position in this competition.
