The crumbling sewerage is set to get a boost in Bhiwani town as the state authorities have initiated the work of overhaul and repair of damaged pipes.
Bhiwani MLA Ghanshyam Saraf, who inaugurated the work of repair of a damaged manhole by breaking a coconut at Fancy Chowk here, said there was no dearth of funds for development works and the BJP government was committed to ensuring all-round development of the state. He said that the sewage system in the town was set for an overhaul as the work had already begun.
Notably, the poor sewage system due to broken and sunken manholes had resulted in widespread resentment among residents. Leakage of sewers has also affected the drinking water supply system in the town. The blockage in sewerage results in overflow and backflow of sewage, causing its accumulation on roads. The MLA claimed that the authorities had undertaken major repair works to restore the system for its proper functioning with an aim to address the issue of contaminated drinking water caused by sewer leaks.
Bhiwani residents have been dealing with damaged sewer lines, particularly around Fancy Chowk, for many months. Sewage overflow has created extremely poor sanitary conditions, giving rise to health concerns. Contaminated water was leaking on to streets from the broken manhole at Fancy Chowk, resulting in contamination of even drinking water supply in several areas.
MLA Saraf said that once the repairs were complete, the problem of contaminated water supply to nearby areas, including Baag Kothi, Nehru Colony and Kriparam Ki Dhani, would be completely resolved.
SDO Surajprakash Jain said that the issue had been partially addressed at the old bus stand, where repairs had already been carried out. He said that work was also under way to shift the pipeline in the Jeetu Wala Johar area. The repair work for the Fancy Chowk manhole includes excavation of the sewage line, which lies approximately 18 feet underground.
