Rohtak, July 11
After having made the Chief Minister and two Union Ministers from Other Backward Class (OBC) category, the BJP is continuing to focus on wooing people from OBC ahead of the Assembly poll. The saffron party is going to organise a state-level ‘OBC sammelan’ in Mahendragarh on July 16. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address it.
The venue of the event is yet to be finalised but the party is contemplating hosting it at Central University of Haryana in Mahendragarh due to the security point of view.
This will be Shah’s second visit to Haryana in the past 20 days. Earlier, he chaired a party meeting in Panchkula on June 29 and instilled enthusiasm among party workers ahead of Assembly poll that are scheduled in October.
At the meeting, Shah also announced that the BJP would fight the Assembly election alone under the leadership of CM Nayab Singh Saini, and exuded confidence that the party would come back to power with full majority for the third term.
“The BJP managed to get a good chunk of OBC votes in the recently held Lok Sabha poll in the state. Hence, the party leadership intends to keep its vote bank intact in the Assembly election as well.
The proposed OBC sammelan is part of this move. Since the Yadav community, a dominant caste in Ahirwal, falls in the OBC, the event is being organised at Mahendragarh. Moreover, BJP candidate Dharambir Singh had got a lead over his rival and Congress candidate Rao Daan Singh in all four Assembly segments of Mahendragarh district in the Lok Sabha poll,” said a senior BJP leader.
The BJP had a good base in Mahendragarh and Rewari, having five of seven MLAs in both the districts.
