Shahabad sitting MLA Ramkaran Kala’s move quitting Jannayak Janta Party and staking claim on Congress ticket for the upcoming Assembly elections hasn’t gone down well with the Congress leaders and workers in the Assembly segment. A section of Congress workers have already expressed their resentment. Congress leaders, including those who have applied for the party tickets said the party should consider the applications of the dedicated and loyal Congressmen instead of those who are yet to even join the party.

Former Shahabad MLA Anil Dhantori, who has also applied for the ticket, said: “It is too early to say anything about the ticket, but it was shocking to see him applying for the Congress ticket while he was a sitting MLA from JJP and was yet to join the Congress. The development has come to a standstill over the past 10 years (during the tenure of BJP MLA Krishan Bedi, and JJP MLA Ramkaran Kala) in Shahabad and nothing has been done for youngsters, and to stop drug peddling. We are confident that the high command will consider all these aspects and respect the sentiments of the public and the Congress workers while taking a final call on the ticket.”

Have right to seek candidature

Everybody has the right to apply for the ticket... I have the public support with me while

the other applicants don’t have that kind of public support with them.

I am confident that the Congress will give the ticket to me from Shahabad. —Ramkaran Kala, Shahabad sitting MLA

Reena Valmiki, who is also seeking the party ticket, said: “As many as 56 people have applied for the ticket, but if we check the list, very few names are there who have been working for the party with dedication for last 10 to 20 years. We expect that the party will reward dedicated workers by giving the party ticket instead of those who are coming from other parties after seeing the favourable situation for Congress in the state. It hurts to see him getting importance from senior party leaders while he is not even in the party. I will raise the matter with the party’s in-charge of Haryana Deepak Babaria.”

Meanwhile, Shahabad MLA Ramkaran Kala, who is expected to join the Congress in Delhi on Tuesday, said “I have resigned from the JJP because people of Shahabad wanted to me join the Congress and contest the election. Everybody has the right to apply for the ticket but the decision is to be taken by the party. The party also checks the potential of the candidate and public sentiments. I remain in constant touch with the people of Shahabad, have worked for them and I have the public support with me while the other applicants don’t have that kind of a public support with them. I am confident that the party will give ticket to me from Shahabad and we will win the election.”
