The Education Department has issued show-cause notices to 84 recognised private schools in the district for not uploading the information regarding 25 per cent seats in the first or entry-level class as per the Right to Education (RTE) act.

Last month, the Directorate of Elementary Education, issued directions to all recognised private schools to ensure that 25 per cent of the seats in the first or entry-level class were reserved for children from economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups. The last date to upload the data was extended multiple times due to lukewarm response from the schools.

MIS portals locked

The Education Department has already locked the MIS portals of these schools. They will not be able to do new registrations and admissions in the schools.

Clear pending dues

The Education Department should also clear the pending dues timely else the affected schools will move the court to get the relief and stop giving admissions

-- Prashant Munjal, Schools’ bodies head

As per the information, there are 356 recognised private schools in the district of which 84 failed to submit their data.

The District Elementary Education Officer has issued directions to all block education officers (BEOs) to deliver a show-cause notice to the school concerned. The BEOs have also been directed to send the certificate by April 21 stating that all these schools had been served the notice.

The schools have been asked to submit their reply within seven days from the date of notice, else the department would presume that the management had no defence to present, and a suitable order would be issued as per the rules.

Ambala District Elementary Education Officer Sudhir Kalra said: “All recognized private schools were repeatedly given opportunities to fill their data on the portal, but still 84 schools failed to upload their data. In compliance of the directions received from the directorate, show-cause notices have been issued to all such schools. The department has already locked the MIS (management information system) portals of these schools and these schools will not be able to do new registrations and admissions in the schools. Further action will be initiated as per the directions from the higher authorities.”

Meanwhile, Haryana Progressive Schools’ Conference north zone president Prashant Munjal said: “Even though the Education Department is yet to clear the dues of teaching students under the RTE of the previous academic sessions, a majority of schools have cooperated with it. It has closed the MIS portal of the schools whose data was not submitted due to various issues. Due to the closure of MIS portal, the schools and the students are facing issues. We have received information about some schools whose data was submitted, but still their names were mentioned on the list of such schools.”

“We will take up the matter with the department and hopefully it will be resolved soon. However, the department should also clear pending dues timely else the schools will move the court to get relief and stop giving admissions”, he added.
