The Dalai Lama interacted with students, faculty members and other staffers of the IIM-Rohtak via video-conferencing during a live online session on “Facing challenges with compassion and wisdom”. The session was also attended by people from various parts of the world.

The spiritual leader said, “I came to India as a refugee due to conflict in Tibet. I was really captivated by the religious harmony of this nation. I believe that India is a living example of religious harmony across the world. Now, the western world too realises that the Indian way of life is the best for maintaining world peace and harmony.” He encouraged the students to focus on what they could give and not on what they could get. He maintained that while materialism was on the rise, modern India should continue to show compassion to those who do not have enough.

“We need to rekindle our own age-old traditions of ‘ahimsa’ and ‘karuna’ to create a peaceful and joyful environment and show the world the path of tolerance, thoughtfulness and compassion,” he stated. A student asked the Dalai Lama: “Many youngsters feel that to develop a scientific temperament, they must detach themselves from religion”. He replied that the pursuit of truth cannot come without being a good person and a good person must have strong values.
