Showers likely in parts of Haryana on January 31, February 1: MeT

The cold weather conditions and fog persisted in the region, with the maximum temperature remaining below normal in Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Jind and Rohtak. However, there was some respite in other districts, which recorded average temperature.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted showers in some parts of the state on January 31 and February 1, ending the dry run of the winter season. The IMD has also issued ‘yellow’ alert for January 31 and February 1, predicting thunderstorms and lighting. Against a normal of 13.5 mm rainfall, the state has received nil rain so far.

The Agriculture Meteorology Department of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University has stated that there is a possibility of isolated showers in some parts of the state from January 31 to February 3 due to the western disturbances.

The prolonged winter has resulted in an increase in respiratory diseases. As per the Hisar health department, 33 H1N1 cases have been detected in the region this month, including 23 in Hisar and another in adjoining districts.

Dr Subhash Khatreja, Deputy Civil Surgeon-cum-district surveillance officer, said the prevailing weather conditions had led to increase in the cases of swine flu. Teams of the department comprising an epidemiologist and a health inspector, along with health workers, had been visiting the affected areas to spread awareness.
