Chandigarh, April 12
Tightening the noose against drug-related crimes, the Sirsa police have booked 611 persons in the district under various sections of the NDPS Act in past nine months.
A police spokesperson said of these, 356 cases involved persons arrested for their involvement in peddling in the district. He said narcotics worth crores of rupees was confiscated from the accused.
As many as 4.763 kg heroin, 38.169 kg opium, over 3,279 kg poppy husk, over 63 kg ganja and 57,363 tablets/caplules falling under the category of prohibited medicine were seized from those arrested, the police said.
DGP PK Agrawal appreciated the efforts of the Sirsa SP and his team. “The massive crackdown has broken the supply chain. The police have also started attaching the properties of peddlers that were acquired from the illicit gains of the illegal trade,” the DGP said. —
