With Holi, the festival of unity, just round the corner, markets of Sirsa are buzzing with activity. Streets like Rori Bazaar, Sadar Bazaar, MC Market, Suratgaria Bazaar, Barnala Road and Hisar Road are filled with shops selling vibrant gulal and pichkaris. Both city dwellers and villagers are flocking to the markets to buy their festival essentials.
This year, herbal gulal, gift hampers and trendy new colors are in high demand. People are excited about the variety of new colors, especially herbal gulal, which is known for being safe for the skin. Smog shot colors are also becoming quite popular. Unique colors like brown, yellow, pink, sky blue and dark blue are being sold for the first time and are seeing a significant increase in demand. Herbal gulal, which is free from harmful chemicals, is especially sought after, with sales increasing by 70 per cent compared to last year.
Children are particularly excited about the wide range of pichkaris available in the market. These water guns, priced between Rs 40 and Rs 3,500, carrying characters like Doraemon and Mickey Mouse, have become favorites of the children. The pressure and cylinder pichkaris are also in high demand.
Along with colors and pichkaris, various Holi-themed items like hats, balloons, masks, colour sprays and printed T-shirts are being sold. White T-shirts with “Happy Holi” and “Bura Na Mano Holi Hai” printed on them are particularly popular and are priced between Rs 100 and Rs 200.
Colorful hair extensions and wigs are also attracting attention. Additionally, there is a rise in demand for colour-themed fireworks, with options like seven star and ten star available.
To ensure a safe and peaceful celebration, the district police have made strict security arrangements. District Superintendent of Police Vikrant Bhushan has wished all citizens a joyful Holi while emphasising safety. The police are on high alert, with special campaigns in place to control unruly behavior, including noise from fireworks and speeding vehicles. Regular patrols and road checks will be conducted, with strict legal action against anyone breaking the rules. The police are committed to keeping the festival safe and enjoyable for all.
