Congress MP from Sirsa, Kumari Selja, on Friday expressed concern in the Lok Sabha over the rapidly growing drug problem in Haryana, particularly in the Sirsa region. Speaking during Zero Hour, she called on the government to take immediate and effective action, warning the crisis poses a serious threat to the future of the state’s youth.

Selja told the House hundreds of young people have already lost their lives to drug addiction and countless families have been devastated. She said without strict measures, the situation could worsen for future generations.

Challenging the Central Government’s claims of controlling drug abuse, Selja said the reality on the ground is starkly different. She noted drug trafficking continues openly in many areas and almost every district is witnessing the spread of drug networks. According to her, administrative efforts to tackle the problem have largely failed.

Selja demanded answers from both the Centre and state government. She asked what concrete steps have been taken to curb drug trafficking and why strong action has not been taken against those involved. She also questioned the absence of a proper, coordinated rehabilitation policy for youth trapped in addiction. Additionally, she sought clarification on under whose protection such a large illegal drug trade is expanding and why the government appears to be avoiding responsibility.
