In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Sirsa police has detained three repeat offenders under the Preventive Detention section of the NDPS Act (PIT-NDPS), jailing them for one year.
The action was approved by the Home Secretary after a detailed report was submitted by the police.
Superintendent of Police Mayank Gupta said the tough step was taken as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign in the district. The detained individuals have been repeatedly involved in drug crimes and continued illegal activities even after being arrested, and released.
In the first case, the Ellenabad police had registered two drug-related cases against Nand Lal, a resident of Ward 17. Despite being sent to jail, he resumed selling drugs after being released on bail. Due to his repeated involvement, action under the PIT-NDPS Act was taken to prevent further offences.
In the second case, Jagseer, alias Seera, a resident of Malekan village, had four cases under the NDPS Act and had also returned to drug trafficking after being released. Similarly, in the third case, Bunty, son of Rajkumar and a resident of Rania Gate, Sirsa, had two drug-related FIRs against him and showed a similar pattern of reoffending.
All three have now been jailed for a year without bail under the PIT-NDPS Act. This law allows preventive detention to stop repeat offenders from continuing illegal activities.Following this action, the Sirsa police is collecting details of illegal properties earned through drug money.
Officials said they would take legal steps to attach assets gained from narcotics trade.
