Sirsa university students submit demand letter to VC

Students of several departments met Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Narsi Ram Bishnoi and submitted an 11 point demand letter addressing various pupil-related issues on Friday. They raised concerns about the university’s website, which had been non-functional for the past 10 days. Due to this, thousands of students have been facing difficulties in filling online examination forms, paying fee, obtaining migration certificates and accessing their results, they said.

Despite informing the university administration earlier, no action was taken to make the portal functional, they said. Students demanded an immediate resolution for the issue. They urged the authorities concerned to extend the deadline for reappear form submission.

Another key demand was the cancellation of the NCCF company’s tender and a legal investigation into its operations. Students Vijay Arora and Satbir Sahni insisted that the tender should be awarded to another company. They also criticised the university’s rule that restricts students above 32 years of age or those who have already completed a master’s degree from taking admission again. They demanded immediate removal of this regulation, while arguing that education should not have any age barriers.

Besides, students opposed the current re-evaluation system, which sends an answer sheet to a second evaluator if marks are increased by more than 15 per cent and then reduced to 50 per cent despite hike in score. Students urged the university to abolish this unfair rule.

They raised concerns over the high fee charged for getting duplicate certificates, while stating that the university charged Rs 7,000 per copy, which was quite excessive. They demanded that this fee should be reduced. They further called for the naming of a university building after Shaheed Nishan Singh Bhavdin as a tribute.

Complaints were also raised about the poor infrastructure, including broken hostel road and faulty plumbing in washrooms. They demanded immediate repairs and better maintenance of the infrastructure. They insisted on the reactivation of the Law Department’s computer lab, which had been non-functional for a long time.

Students also resented the proposed increase in course fee, while urging the university not to burden students with higher expenses. Besides, they demanded availability of essential chemicals in university departments to ensure proper practical learning.

Vice Chancellor Dr Bishnoi assured students that their concerns would be taken seriously and the university administration would work towards resolving these issues.

Students, including Shravan, Chandan Soni, Rajendra Singh, Azad Singh, Premchand, Jagdeep Kamboj, Sumit Mehta and others, were present during the meeting.
