Sirsa youth killed in road mishap in Australia

A 27-year-old man from Sirsa district died in a road accident in Melbourne, Australia. The victim, Prabhjot Singh from Haripura village, was working at a recycling plant when he was hit by a truck.

According to his family, Prabhjot was working on securing a truck latch when a nearby loader suddenly reversed, crushing him between the two vehicles. He suffered severe injuries to his chest and abdomen. The accident occurred last Friday.

He was rushed to hospital by the Australian police, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Prabhjot had gone to Australia on a student visa around four years ago and was working as a truck driver to support himself.

His family was informed by his friends in Melbourne, leaving them in deep shock. Prabhjot was the only son of his parents. His father, Harnek Singh, is a farmer.

Bringing the body back to India is expected to cost nearly Rs 26 lakh. His friends and a local NGO in Australia have raised the required amount. The body is expected to arrive at the Delhi airport by Friday.

Prabhjot last visited his village in January for his cousin’s wedding and returned to Australia in March.
