Six illegal plastic melting and reprocessing units have been found operating in Bamnoli village, Bahadurgarh, near the Haryana-Delhi border in Jhajjar district.

The violations came to light during a surprise inspection by a joint team of officials from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), Municipal Council, Irrigation Department, Panchayati Raj Department, Public Health Engineering, Police, and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN).

“The plastic was being melted and processed when the team arrived, following a specific input regarding the activity. These units neither have Consent to Establish (CTE) nor Consent to Operate (CTO), both of which are mandatory for running any industrial unit,” said Shailendra Arora, Regional Officer, HSPCB, Bahadurgarh.

He added that plastic waste was being brought in illegally from outside, with machines installed for washing, melting, and reprocessing. Alarmingly, “biomedical waste was also found at one of the units, where it appeared to have been processed for reuse, which is an alarming violation of health and environmental regulations.”

“All six units have been served notices and asked to submit their responses regarding the illegal operations within three days. Based on their replies, closure action will be recommended to the state authorities. Officials are now investigating how long these units have been operating illegally and will seek relevant records from the Municipal Council,” Arora said.

He informed that a Special Environment Surveillance Task Force (SESTF) has been formed in Jhajjar district to carry out regular surprise checks on industrial compliance. Arora also revealed that “six jeans dyeing units were also recently found operating illegally in the Bahadurgarh area, in clear violation of environmental norms. Closure action has already been recommended against these units, and we are awaiting the response from state authorities to take further steps.”
