Six shopkeepers challaned, fined Rs1 lakh in Yamunanagar

47.88 kg of single-use plastic items were seized from them

A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board issue challans to shopkeepers for using banned single-use plastic items.

A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), and Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) took action against shopkeepers, who were found using banned single-use plastic items, including polythene carry bags.

The joint team challaned six shopkeepers and seized 47.88 kg of single-use plastic items from them. The team also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on these shopkeepers.

According to information, on the instructions of MC Commissioner Mahabir Parsad, three teams have been formed to take action against those who were found indulging in encroachment activities, selling of banned polythene and spreading of garbage in the open.

Chief Sanitary Inspector (CSI) Harjeet Singh has been given the responsibility for Wards one to seven, CSI Vinod Beniwal for Wards eight to 15 and CSI Anil Nain for Wards 16 to 22.

These teams are taking action in collaboration with the team of the HSPCB for the use of single-use plastic items.

As per available information, the team of Diksha Pandey (Scientist B) of the HSPCB, Gaurav of HSPCB and Sanitary Inspector of MCYJ Sushil Kumar first inspected the shops at Maharana Pratap Chowk on Jagadhri Workshop Road.

During the inspection, a large amount of single-use plastic items including polythene, glasses and other goods were recovered from two grocery shops.

The team challaned both shopkeepers and took the goods in its possession.

Later, the team inspected several shops on Radaur Road also. During inspection, single-use plastic items were recovered from four shopkeepers in this area.

These four shopkeepers were also challaned on the spot and a total fine of Rs 1 lakh was collected from all six shopkeepers.

Special Officer Anil Yadav said under the Haryana Sahari Swachhta Abhiyan, the MCYJ was making efforts to make the twin cities clean and beautiful.
