A joint team of the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has challaned six shopkeepers for using banned single-use polythene carry bags, and two for throwing garbage in the open.
According to information, the joint team, led by MC Assistant Sanitary Inspector Sachin Kamboj and HSPCB Junior Engineer Gaurav, conducted raids in Buria town, under the jurisdiction of the MC (zone-1).
The team conducted raids at several shops here, and recovered banned single-use polythene bags from six shopkeepers, including a vegetable seller and a grocery trader. All shopkeepers were challaned on the spot by the team, and polythene bags were confiscated from them.
Apart from this, two shopkeepers were found throwing garbage in the open.
“The team issued challans to eight shopkeepers and collected a fine of Rs 12,500 from them,” said Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha. He said a team, led by Chief Sanitary Inspector Harjeet Singh, had been formed for zone-1, and another team, led by Chief Sanitary Inspector Sunil Dutt, had been formed for zone-2 of the MC to stop the use of banned single-use polythene bags.
Kamboj said the owner of a dairy and a meat seller were challaned for throwing garbage in the open.
He said, on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, raids were being conducted to stop the use of single-use plastic items, including polythene bags.
