A team from the MCYJ issued challans to six shopkeepers for selling single-use plastic products and banned polythene carry bags. Fines were collected on the spot and the polythene bags were seized.
On the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad, the MCYJ has formed enforcement teams led by Chief Sanitary Inspector (CSI) Harjeet Singh for wards one to seven, CSI Anil Nain for wards eight to 15 and CSI Vinod Beniwal for wards 16 to 22 to ensure compliance with the ban.
An inspection team comprising sanitation inspectors Sushil Sharma and Krishna Kumar visited Camp Bazaar in ward 17, where they seized banned single-use plastic items and polythene carry bags from six shopkeepers. Challans were issued and fines collected from all six.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar said 19 plastic items — including polythene carry bags, plastic spoons, canes, glasses, ice cream sticks, plates, cups, forks, straws, trays, sweet box foil, invitation cards, thermocol decorative items, PVC banners, balloons and plastic flags — were prohibited. “If any shopkeeper is found selling these banned items, MCYJ teams take action. The Corporation issues challans and seizes banned polythene,” Dheeraj Kumar said. He urged the public to carry their own bags when shopping.
