SKM demands relief for crop damage
The district unit of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a farmers' body, has demanded immediate survey and release of compensation to the farmers whose crops and vegetables have been damaged by the hailstorm that lashed various parts of the district on Friday.
Mahender Singh Chauhan, a spokesperson for the morcha, said standing crops of wheat, mustard, cauliflower, tomatoes and other vegetables in many villages of the district had suffered heavy damage due to hailstorms accompanied by rains in the past 24 hours. Claiming that the damage to the crops and vegetables has been up to 50 per cent in many areas, the SKM has urged the state government to order a girdawari (a survey by the Revenue Department) immediately and provide the compensation for loss caused by the natural calamity.
