SKM stages protest to support ongoing farmers’ stir in Palwal
Activists of the district unit of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an association of the farmers, staged a demonstration to express their solidarity with the ongoing agitation, highlighting the “harassment” and “victimisation” of the farmers at the Shambhu border.
The protesters, who assembled at Gurjar Dharamshala here, accused the state and Union governments of making the farmers unnecessarily suffer by not allowing them to conduct a march to Delhi in support of their pending demands.
Jitender Numberdar, who presided over the protest, said the atrocities against the food grower in the country had been on and the current situation prevailing at the Shambhu border had exposed the anti-farmer face of the BJP and the NDA governments.
Mahender Singh Chauhan and Dharm Chand Gugera, local SKM leaders, said the present stance of the government was an indication that it was leaving no stone unturned to trample the rights of the farming to even express their resentment and protest in a peaceful manner against its “wrong” policies.
They claimed that if the crisis was not resolved amicably, it could result in a wider and intensive agitation as the farmers had been seeking a resolution of their justified demands.
Describing the indefinite fast of farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal as the only option, he said it was unfortunate that the government was least concerned about the issues faced by the farmers. A memorandum was later submitted to the Deputy Commissioner for the President.
