Ambala: Small jewellers seek govt relief
Ambala, August 7
The Akhil Bhartiya Swarnkar Sangh today said that small-time jewellers were facing a crisis due to the “unfavourable policies” of the government and people associated with the trade were losing their jobs.
A “maha sammelan” of the Swarnkar Sangh was organised at Saini Bhawan in Ambala City on Sunday.
Kartar Singh Jaura, national president of the sangh, said, “Due to unfavourable policies of the government, the jeweller community, especially small-time goldsmiths, is facing several issues. There is no support from the government. Incidents of loot are on the rise in Haryana, Punjab and UP.”
National general secretary Govind Verma said, “Due to higher taxes on gold, smuggling is increasing and a huge amount of money is going into the pockets of smugglers. If the taxes are reduced, the smuggling will also stop. We have started holding state-level meetings to discuss the issues being faced by the community and also chalk out a strategy for a national level protest.”
Meanwhile, Davinder Verma of Ambala City was appointed the sangh’s state chief.
