Faridabad Smart City projects likely to be transferred to FMDA, MC by June-end

The Faridabad Smart City Limited (FSCL), which had taken up the project of developing civic infrastructure under the Smart City project, is likely to hand over the maintenance of these projects to the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) and the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) by June end.
It is revealed that the Smart City project, which was launched in 2017, will come to an end in June this year. The project included the construction of smart roads, parks and related amenities.
Faridabad was among 100 cities in the country that were selected for the Smart City project in 2015-16. The project was launched with a budget of Rs 2,600 crore. The FSCL has developed one park and work on other two is in progress. The development of three smart roads has also been completed, besides infrastructural support to 19 other roads in the city has also been provided. The cost of development of one park is reported to be Rs 2 crore.
The list of projects taken up under the Smart City Mission included the development of an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) for supervision of traffic movement, hiring of hauling vehicle equipped with GPS systems, development of virtual tour application and the development of 26.1-km-long smart roads.
Besides, it encompassed the construction of manholes and covering of drains, wall art painting, landscaping of Court road, 10 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) at Badkhal, rejuvenation of Badkhal Lake and restoration and development of water bodies.
The project further included the development of parks and civic infrastructure in Fatehpur Chandila and Sant Nagar, multi-level car parking at Old Sabzi Mandi, construction of e- toilets, beautification of five intersections of the national highway, rainwater harvesting at public buildings, open air gyms, water supervising control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, stray dog shelters and construction of STPs.
The project aimed to cover the designated area called the Area Based Development, spread over 1,267 acres in Sectors 28, 20, 19, 21 A, B,C and D, Friends colony, Kharkana Bagh, Fatehpur Chandila village, Sant Nagar, Shastri Colony, Raja Garden, Gopi Colony, Baba Nagar and SGM Nagar.
Work on some of the projects like the SCADA system and the restoration of water bodies has already been taken over by other agencies. The MC and the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) maintain around 400 parks, resident welfare associations look after another 400 parks. The civic body reportedly spends around Rs 2.5 crore funds on these parks annually.
FSCL DGM Arvind Kumar said while a majority of the works had been completed, the maintenance of projects that are still in progress would be undertaken by the civic agencies after the culmination of the project.
