Rohtak, August 1
The Teej festival was celebrated in a traditional and humane manner by the Innerwheel Club of Rohtak, Bloomingdale.
The highlight of the event was the inclusion and recognition of the transgender community from Rohtak, who were welcomed as special guests. They were presented with hygiene hampers and traditional sweets. A learning session on personal hygiene and healthcare was also conducted by specialist doctors. Transgender community members, including Lily, Makhan and Khushboo, were encouraged to put their queries to the medical experts.
Club president Dr Pooja Sharma said club members Yashika Jain and Samridhi Jain also sponsored the surgery of a 14-month-old child suffering from inguinal hernia. Club member Arpita Jain sponsored schoolbags for 50 underprivileged children studying at a centre run by a local NGO. A cultural programme featuring Haryanavi folk dance and other festivities was also organised on the occasion.
