Panipat, February 3
Two labourers were killed after a mound of soil caved in on them during the widening work of the Delhi-Parallel Canal near Dhindar village in Samalkha.
The deceased have been identified as Amit (24) of Budaun and Devesh (18) of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh. The work is underway since April 2023.
As many as eight labourers were working in the canal while other labourers were involved in digging work with JCB machines to build a bridge on the canal when a mound of soil caved in from above and the labourers got buried under it late Friday evening.
Other workers quickly pulled out the labourers from the soil mound.
They were immediately rushed to a private hospital. One of them had died on the spot while the other one succumbed during his treatment.
The Samalkha police reached the spot and began a probe into the matter. Inspector Phool Kumar, SHO, Samalkha said no written complaint has been received so far.
