Son arrested for allegedly killing parents, dumping bodies in canal in Karnal

The Special Detective Unit of Karnal police has arrested a man for allegedly killing his father and mother. The accused, Himmat Singh, a resident of Uchana village, allegedly killed his father, Mahender Singh (56), and mother, Bala Devi (54), on the intervening night of March 13-14 using sharp-edged weapons.

The bodies were allegedly dumped in the Western Yamuna Canal in Gagsina village. The incident came to light on March 15 when Jarnail Singh, Mahender’s brother, reported their disappearance.

A case was registered at the Indri police station under Section 140(1) of the BNS, and a forensic team collected samples from the crime scene. The police shared information about the disappearance with nearby districts, leading to the discovery of Bala Devi’s body in Panipat on March 14.

Mahender Singh’s body is still missing, and efforts are underway to trace him. The police reviewed CCTV footage, gathered evidence, and arrested Himmat Singh.

According to DSP Satish Gautam, the investigation revealed that Himmat Singh had disputes with his father over property matters. His father had filed a legal suit in court, and the accused was not allowed to enter the house. “The search for Mahender Singh is underway. We are making all our efforts to trace him,” he added.
