The Special Detective Unit of Karnal Police has arrested a man for allegedly murdering his parents and disposing of their bodies in the Western Yamuna Canal. The accused, Himmat Singh, a resident of Kamalpur Roran currently living in Uchana village, is accused of killing his father, Mahender Singh (56), and mother, Bala Devi (54), on the night of March 13-14 using sharp-edged weapons.

He then allegedly transported their bodies to Gagsina village, where he dumped them into the canal. The incident came to light on March 15 when Mahender Singh’s brother, Jarnail Singh, was informed by a neighbour that Mahender and his wife were missing and their house was locked from the outside. After searching for them among relatives, Jarnail visited the couple’s home and discovered bloodstains in the veranda, with all the doors locked.

DSP Indri Satish Gautam, accompanied by forensic experts, inspected the crime scene and collected crucial evidence. Following this, a case was registered at Indri police station under Section 140(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Information about their disappearance was circulated to nearby police stations.

Meanwhile, Panipat Police reported finding the body of an unidentified woman on March 14. On March 16, the body was identified as Bala Devi. However, Mahender Singh’s body remains missing. “We are making all-out efforts to trace him,” said Gautam.

The police swiftly launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas, which provided crucial leads. Based on credible evidence, the Special Detective Unit arrested Himmat Singh.
