Sonepat saw 25% dip in murder cases in 2024
The Sonepat district witnessed a decline in crime rate in 2024 compared to 2023. The police arrested around 100 criminals, on whom the police had announced the reward on their arrest, in the past one year.
As per data, Sonepat district witnessed a 25 per cent decline in murder cases in 2024. It recorded 105 murder cases in 2023 and 79 in 2024. Similarly, it also witnessed a 5 per cent decline in attempt to murder cases. A total 84 cases of attempt to murder were recorded in 2023 and 80 in 2024.
The district recorded 38 per cent decline in loot and robbery incidents — 111 recorded in 2023 while 69 recorded in 2024. However, snatching incidents recorded were the same — 79 in 2023 and 2024. The district also witnessed a decline in vehicle theft cases —758 in 2023 and 666 in 2024.
Apart from it, the district witnessed a decline in crime against women in the last year in comparison to 2023. The district witnessed a decline of 43 per cent in molestation cases. As many as 138 molestation cases were registered in 2023 while with a decline of 43 per cent, a total of 79 cases were registered in 2024.
The district witnessed 123 rape cases in 2023 and with the decline of 39 per cent, the district recorded 76 rape cases in 2024.
Apart from it, the Sonepat police have arrested 100 most-wanted criminals, who were bearing rewards ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 25,000. The police have arrested 218 proclaimed offenders, 463 bail jumpers and three parole jumpers, 149 gamblers and 140 drug paddlers.
To make the district crime-free, the Sonepat police have arrested 35 members of 11 notorious gangs and solved 69 cases. Rs 99 lakh cash has been recovered from them. The team also arrested eight members of a dacoit gang and solved six cases. Nineteen members of two gangs were arrested for their involvement in extortion while more than 100 members of around 25 gangs involved in theft and snatching were nabbed by the police.
A special anti-gangster unit of the Sonepat police also arrested 21 accused in a firing incident at a shop in Gohana and solved 14 blind murder cases.
Sonepat DCP (Crime) Narender Kadyan said under the supervision of the Haryana DGP and Commissioner of Police, police teams had made efforts to control the crime and break the backbone of the gangsters in the district in 2024. It helped in bringing the crime graph down. No case of heinous crime in the district remained unsolved so far, the DCP said. The main focus of the district police was to make the district crime-free, he added.
