The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) today launched a special cleanliness drive in the twin cities. Under the campaign that will continue till November 27, vacant plots, main roads and markets will be spruced up.
On Day 1, the MC teams cleaned various areas, including Meera Bai Bazaar and Railway Road. They will also clean vacant plots and instruct the owners to build boundary walls around their land. The drive was launched under on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad.
“Owners will have to incur the cost of cleaning vacant plots,” said Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad. “If the plots are found filled with garbage and without boundary walls, the owners will be served notices under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act,” said Parsad, adding that a large number of plots were vacant in all 22 wards.
“The vacant plots that do not have boundary walls are littered with garbage, causing inconvenience to residents living nearby,” he added.
Parsad said due to lack of proper upkeep, the plots are taken over by wild growth and due to waterlogging, they become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
