The Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Rohtak, has launched a special drive to check all school buses for fitness certificates as per the Surakshit School Vahan Policy.
The drive, which has been launched to ensure the safety of schoolchildren following directions of the State Transport Commissioner, will continue till February 28.
As per a communique by the office of the Transport Commissioner, a daily special drive has to be conducted at district and sub-division levels to check all school buses.
"The fitness certificate and general fitness of all buses have to be checked in the special drive on a daily basis, including Saturdays and Sundays," states the communique. It further maintains that no bus should ply in any district and sub-division without a valid fitness certificate.
Of the 1,274 school buses in the district, 27 were checked for fitness today, Rohtak District Transport Officer-cum-RTA Secretary Major (retd) Gayatri Ahlawat said.
"The buses are being checked for GPS devices, CCTV cameras, speed governors, female attendants, display of school information and reflector tapes etc," she stated. The officer maintained that all school buses in the district would be checked thoroughly during the drive.
