Special Intensive Revision: Haryana Chief Electoral Officer issues instructions to District Electoral Officers
Haryana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) A Sreenivas today issued directions to all District Electoral Officers (DEOs) of the state for the implementation of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
“Election Commission of India (ECI) organised a meeting of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all states on September 10, in which directions were given to implement the Special Intensive Revision across the country,” Sreenivas told The Tribune.
He said the state had been asked to do the preparatory work, though the schedule was yet to be announced by the Election Commission.
BLOs to match voter list
The Commission has instructed that all BLOs will match the current voter list of Haryana with the voter list of the year 2002 by October 20. If a voter’s name is registered in both voter lists, they will not be required to provide any documents.
Sreenivas told DEOs that in places where the posts of Booth Level Officer (BLO) was vacant, appointments should be made soon and their ID cards should be issued, so that there was no hindrance in the work of preparing the new voter list. Apart from this, officers and employees related to SIR should be given training, he said.
The Chief Electoral Officer gave these directions today through video conferencing regarding SIR. He asked the DEOs and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to ensure compliance with the instructions issued from time to time by the Election Commission of India regarding SIR.
He said, “According to the Commission’s guidelines regarding SIR, a new voter list will be prepared. The Commission has directed that all BLOs will match the current voter list of Haryana with the voter list of the year 2002 by October 20. If a voter’s name is registered in both voter lists, they will not be required to provide any documents.”
Sreenivas, while giving instructions to all DEOs, said, “BLOs will go to every voter’s house to fill out the enumeration form for the new voter list. For this, two copies of the form will be given to the voter to fill. Out of these, one copy will remain with the voter, and the BLO will take the other copy for preparing the new voter list.”
He said, “As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the rationalisation of polling stations will be conducted based on a maximum of 1,200 voters. If there are more than 1,200 voters, then a new polling station should be created.”
He also instructed that meetings should be held from time to time with representatives of all recognised national and state-level political parties located in the district, and the list of booth-level agents be obtained from all. In addition, the printing of enumeration sheets and their timely availability to BLOs should be ensured, he added.
The Chief Electoral Officer said the voter lists of the year 2002 and the finally published voter list of the year 2024 were available on the department’s website for the convenience of the general public. The Chief Electoral Officer appealed to all registered voters of the state, the youth, who are eligible to become voters, and representatives of all political parties to extend their cooperation in the SIR being carried out to prepare an error-free voter list of the state.
