Gurugram, February 4

In order to curtail the menace of overloaded vehicles, primarily mining dumpers, the NHAI will install special Weight in Motion Sensors (VIMS) at the Kherki Daula toll plaza here. The sensors will allow the authorities to identify and challan overweight vehicles as they try to enter and leave the city.

The decision was made at a road safety committee meeting in Gurugram chaired by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav. It was decided that while those found indulging in ferrying of illegally mined sand or stone or other material to and from crushers will be penalised, the overloaded vehicles will have to pay ten times the prescribed toll amount.

DC Yadav directed NHAI officials to install this system on the Gurugram-Sohna expressway and the Faridabad Road as well.
