The long-pending project of allotting stainless steel carts to eligible beneficiaries and developing a vending zone in the outer area of Brahma Sarovar is expected to take off soon.

With the aim to bring uniformity and increase beautification, 50 stainless steel carts were procured in 2022 by the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB). Each cart costs Rs 1 lakh, for which funds were provided by the Power Grid Corporation Limited under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

As per the information, the Kurukshetra Development Board has decided to allot the stainless-steel carts, to eligible beneficiaries, for which a security amount of Rs 10,000 each will be taken.

An official said “A large number of tourists visit Brahma Sarovar daily. At present, the vendors setup their stalls as per their wish and in the absence of any uniformity and standardisation, it doesn’t present a good picture. The board wanted to introduce standardisation to attract tourists and help the vendors in improving their sales. But due to various reasons, the carts were never allotted and the project was hanging fire for around three years. The carts were parked in the open area of Sri Krishna Museum in Kurukshetra.”

Chief Executive Officer of KDB Pankaj Setia said, “The board has decided to develop a vending zone and the stainless steel carts will be allotted to the eligible beneficiaries by the board. A design will be prepared for the vending zone and the carts will be setup accordingly. The beneficiaries have to deposit a security deposit of Rs 10,000. The project will help the board in bringing uniformity and standardisation in the outer area of the Brahma Sarovar. The carts will be allotted soon.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of 48-kos Tirtha Monitoring Committee, Madan Mohan Chhabra, in whose tenure as honorary secretary of the board, the carts were procured, said, “Under the Divya Kurukshetra Mission, it was decided to bring uniformity, enhance cleanliness and also help the poor vendors, who setup their stalls in the outer area of Brahma Sarovar, by providing them good quality carts. The vendors and street food play crucial roles in tourism and standardised stainless steel carts will help in creating an ambience.”

“A survey was conducted and there were around 80 vendors, then, who used to set up their stalls in the outer area of Brahma Sarovar. The board had procured 50 carts for them. The carts are available with the board and soon the same will be allotted to the eligible beneficiaries,” he added.
