“It is our duty to show the right path to the younger generation. Inculcating moral values in children is important as it promotes patriotism,” she said while addressing a district-level school management committee (SMC) training and conference here today.

She said she would apprise the Chief Minister of suggestions offered by the SMC members to enhance the quality of education. “Over 25 lakh students are enrolled in government schools across the state, and the government is constantly trying to provide them with the best education for their overall development. The SMCs are playing an important role in improving the functioning of schools,” said Trikha.

Training programmes for district-level SMCs — formed under the Right to Education Act, 2009 — were being organised in all 22 districts of the state, she said.

“The SMC members, especially women, should form groups of two members each and set aside two hours before and after lunch in government schools to check the quality of midday meal being served to students. The SMCs are an important link in the development of schools,” she said.

On the occasion, the best SMCs of Siha, Palhawas, Kanwali, Jainabad, Gugod, Bawal, Tatarpur Istmurar, Motala, Bithwana, Berli, Sudharana Kasaula and Manethi schools were felicitated for their work. Toppers, teachers and mentors of classes X and XII were also honoured by the minister.

Earlier, she held a meeting of SMCs at Narnaul in Mahendragarh district and visited an exhibition organised by students. A self-charging electric cycle developed by students of Aarohi Model Senior Secondary School, Mandana, was the centre of attraction. Akash of class XII and his coordinator Abhishek prepared the model under the supervision of their maths teacher, Rajpal. Akash has been honoured with the Inspire Award by the government.
