Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee working president Suresh Gupta demanded a probe into the allegations levelled by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, saying instead of responding to Gandhi’s concerns, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is asking Rahul to file an affidavit.
While interacting with mediapersons at Jat Bhawan, Gupta alleged that the Commission’s functioning was “under suspicion” and said the public trust in the Commission was eroding.
He accused the ECI of working in collusion with the BJP to weaken democracy, claiming that in the recent Haryana Assembly elections, despite widespread expectations of a Congress victory, the BJP managed to retain power.
Gupta alleged a large-scale vote theft and questioned the credibility of the ECI. The issue was raised by Rahul Gandhi, who demanded a fair investigation into the alleged theft of 1,00,250 votes in the Mahadevapura Lok Sabha
constituency under Bengaluru Central.
Congress leader Bhupinder Lather alleged that the ECI was not recognising Aadhaar and voter ID cards as proof of Indian citizenship, terming it an “undemocratic attack” on citizens. He cited the removal of 6.5 million names from Bihar’s voter rolls, claiming many of them were valid voters with correct documentation.
Congress leader Rajesh Vaid demanded that the ECI release the digital voter list data, alleging that previously available text-based lists on the commission’s website had been replaced with PDF files to obscure transparency.
Congress leader Lalit Butana claimed discrepancies in reported voter turnout figures, alleging that percentages often increased significantly after polling day — calling it “digital fraud and vote theft.”
The leaders also condemned the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders during a protest march in Delhi.
