In a setback to government employees, the state government has de-empanelled Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre in Delhi for not accepting package rates notified by the government and refusing to provide cashless treatment.

Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Suraj Bhan Kamboj, in a letter on December 31 last year to various departments, stated that the state government had decided to remove the name of the premier cancer institute in Sector 5 of Rohini in Delhi from the list of private empanelled hospitals with immediate effect.

The letter mentioned that the state government had notified 152 packages and implant rates in 2015 which has to be accepted by private empanelled hospitals. “Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre is removed from the list of empanelled hospitals in view of non-acceptance of package rates notified by the government and refusing to provide medical facility to regular employees and pensioners of the state government and their dependants on cashless basis,” the letter mentioned.

A family member of a cancer patient stated they were shocked to find the institute de-empanelled. “This is the premier cancer institute and the doctors also recommend this institute for treatment”.

DGHS Kamboj, while confirming the de-empanelment, said there were many hospitals on the government panel for cancer treatment. “Treatment facilities are available at PGIMS Rohtak, while OPD has been started at the cancer hospital in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Badsa village in Jhajjar district,” he said, adding that the cancer hospital in Ambala was also likely to start soon.
