The Department of School Education, Haryana, is set to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI) course in government schools from the new academic session beginning in March 2026, in a bid to equip students with modern skills and boost creativity. Preparations for the rollout are underway across the state.

In the first phase, the AI course will be introduced for Class IX students before being extended to Classes X, XI and XII. Teachers will also integrate AI tools into classroom teaching to make lessons more engaging and practical.

To ensure smooth implementation, nearly one lakh teachers will be trained in phases. A district-level training camp will be organised by DIET Ding from September 25 to 29, where 50 teachers from Sirsa district will undergo training covering AI fundamentals, project-based learning, question paper design and evaluation techniques.

District education officials said the course, taught in 40–45 minute periods across five subjects, aims to enhance creativity, problem-solving skills and the use of digital tools among students, thereby strengthening their prospects for higher education and jobs.

Haryana’s State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has developed a comprehensive five-day training module for teachers, covering basic AI concepts, prompt engineering, classroom applications, assessment and exam preparation. Two master trainers from each district have already been trained and will now lead sessions for other teachers.

Between August 25 and 29, SCERT organised a state-level training attended by two teachers from each district, including Sanjay Kumar (PGT Fine Art), the nodal officer, and Tripta, from Sirsa. Describing the training as “highly valuable”, Kumar said the focus was mainly on introductory content since most AI tools currently in use in India are free versions. “Efforts were made to maximise the benefit from these free AI platforms,” he added.

Kumar stressed that introducing AI classes would be a game-changer for students. “Until now, students were only taught basic e-content skills such as creating email IDs, sending emails and downloading files. With AI integration, teachers will be able to use their imagination to stimulate greater creativity among students while presenting lessons with improved examples,” he said.

He also noted that AI would help teachers with routine tasks such as creating slides, graphics, tables and notes more efficiently.
