State human rights panel chief visits district jail
Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) Chairperson Justice Lalit Batra (retd) on Wednesday said that human rights would not be violated at any cost in Haryana.
The HHRC chairperson, who was accompanied by the commission members Kuldip Jain and Deep Bhatia, held a meeting with the district officials at Pipli Parakeet in Kurukshetra and said, “Rights have been prescribed for every person in the society and no one should be deprived of their rights.”
Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, Superintendent of Police Varun Singla and other officials were present during the meeting.
Chairperson Lalit Batra, while informing the officials about the human rights in detail, said beggars, people at old-age homes, night shelters, patients in hospitals and other sections of society should be made aware of their rights and everyone should get their rights. The officials must ensure that no person is harassed.
They also visited Kurukshetra district jail and inquired about the facilities being provided to the inmates. Lalit Batra visited the hospital, library, canteen, kitchen and other rooms in the jail and interacted with the inmates to obtain feedback.
After inspecting the quality of food, toilets and drinking water, the chairperson also issued some directions to the jail officials.
Chairman Justice Lalit Batra instructed the officials that signboards should be installed at public places, railway stations and bus stands in the city to enable the needy people get information about the old-age homes and night shelters. All facilities should be available as per the rules at all these places.
