State in-charge Babaria likely to attend Congress Sandesh Yatra in Kaithal

Congress Haryana in-charge Deepak Babaria is likely to attend ‘Sandesh Yatra’ of former union minister Kumari Selja, Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala and Tosham MLA Kiran Choudhary — the troika of Haryana Congress — in Kaithal tomorrow, as per a party leader.

The yatra was launched from Hisar on January 17 and was to cover all the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies in Haryana.

Sources said the yatra that has already covered 8 out of the 10 Lok Sabha seats would complete its first phase in Ambala on Monday. It was unlikely that the yatra would visit remaining two Lok Sabha seats Rohtak and Gurugram as of now, the sources added.

The yatra has shot up political temperature in Haryana and even more in the Congress in view of a letter by Babaria, a day before start of the yatra. The letter triggered a row with Selja taking strong exception to it. The party central leadership had to call a meeting in Delhi on the issue. Selja said the yatra was an offshoot of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

After the meeting, photographs of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan were included in the yatra banners in Sirsa.

“Now, Babaria will make an appearance in the next rally in Kaithal. This seems to be an attempt to placate both the factions in Haryana Congress. As Hooda and Selja groups are garnering public support, the party should capitalise on it as the anti-government sentiments are quite palpable in view of large gatherings in party programmes,” said a Congress leader.

A political expert, however, said rivalry among leaders was good for the party to a certain extent. “This rivalry should be to showcase their strength and not to weaken each other,” said the political expert.
