Ahead of the commencement of the Budget Session of the Haryana Assembly on March 7, the steering committee of the party’s Haryana unit met here on Wednesday under the presidentship of the party’s Haryana incharge BK Hariprasad and discussed the issue of organisational revamp, besides other issues.

Talking to the media outside the new Congress headquarters, 'Indira Bhavan', Hariprasad said a decision was taken at the recent Congress Working Committee meeting held in Gurugram to reorganise the AICC, PCC and district and panchayat-level committees.

“It was also decided in the meeting to launch 'Samvidhan Bachao Padyatra'. The padyatra will be conducted in every town and village of the state from January 26, 2025, to January 26, 2026. Suggestions were also given. We will decide on them and move forward," he said.

He also held one-on-one meetings with the participants to obtain feedback regarding organisational matters. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a former Chief Minister, and HPCC chief Udai Bhan were also present at the meeting, besides other state leaders.

All five MPs — Kumari Selja, Deepender Hooda, Satpal Bhramchari, Jai Prakash, and Varun Chaudhary — were present. Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala, and former Union minister Birender Singh also attended the meeting.

Hooda and Bhan played a key role in the Assembly elections in October, in which the BJP emerged victorious, despite the Congress being projected in the media as a hot favourite among voters.

Meanwhile, the Congress high command is yet to appoint an MLA as the leader of the party (CLP) in the state Assembly.

Ajay Singh Yadav, a prominent OBC leader of the Congress in Haryana, said the state president should be someone who was loyal to the party and whose views aligned with the party. “The PCC president should not be a sidekick of another leader,” he said.

The CLP leader should be chosen after taking the views of all MLAs, he stated, adding that, “A non-Jat, preferably OBC or a Dalit, should be made PCC president.”

Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary said, “I have told the state incharge that the CLP leader should be named as soon as possible, and the party organisation should be set up soon so that 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bheem, Jai Samvidhan' campaign could be carried out successfully. The feedback from MLAs on the CLP leader has already been taken. The delay is harming the party.”

Bhan, too, raised the issue of naming the CLP leader.

“The state incharge told us that feedback from MLAs has already been taken on the CLP leader. The matter is pending with the high command,” said an MLA.
