State to up MGNREGA wages to Rs 347 a day

The state government has decided to hike the daily wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme to Rs 347, the highest in the country. The current daily wage is Rs 284.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has already approved a proposal to this effect and which will be implemented soon, Sudhir Rajpal, Principal Secretary, Development and Panchayats Department, said here today.
Rajpal said as against Rs 350 crore paid to the beneficiaries in the financial year 2018-19, the state government had paid an amount of nearly Rs 300 crore in about five months of the current financial year.
Haryana has nearly 4.54 lakh MGNREGA job card holders of which over 2.92 lakh are active workers.
Under the Central Government’s flagship Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a substantial works under the MGNREGA scheme are taken up with a view to conserve water. — TNS
