STF nabs main accused in Gohana firing

The special task force (STF) has arrested another person allegedly involved in a criminal conspiracy and firing at a famous sweet shop in Gohana on January 21 with the intention of extorting Rs 2 crore from its owner.

The arrested person, identified as Rohit of Chhapar village in Jhajjar district, was the main suspect in the incident. He is said to be a close associate of notorious gangster Himanshu Bhau, who perates from abroad.

Acting on a tip-off, a Sonepat STF team led by Inspector Braham Prakash arrested Rohit, who carried a Rs 50,000 reward on his head, announced by the Haryana Police.

The team seized a pistol and seven live cartridges from his possession. He was produced in court and sent to three-day police remand. According to sources, Sahil of Ritoli, another close associate of Bhau, was the mastermind of the extortion conspiracy.

Rohit had helped the gang members to execute the plan and, aiming to collect the extortion money by creating terror among traders and businessmen.

The gang’s operations started at an observation home in Hisar, where Bhau gang members were present. After attacking the employees, they fled the spot. Later, they committed a bank robbery at gunpoint in Machroli village of Jhajjar on October 21, 2020, sources said.

During an investigation, it was found that Bhau and Rohit were involved in this case, the sources added. STF SP Wasim Akram said Rohit and others were in custody and the investigation was underway.
