Gurugram, July 9

A team of the special task force (STF), Gurugram, and the Delhi Police special cell rescued a Tamil Nadu-based thread trader and his assistant from Delhi following the arrest of five kidnappers who were seeking a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from the family of businessman. The officials of the STF said they had informed the Tamil Nadu Police, who were on their way to take the accused in their custody.

According to the STF, KS Vilvapathy, managing partner of Sri Jayakrishna Textiles, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, reached New Delhi on July 7 by 6.30 pm at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by a Madurai flight along with his assistant Vinod Kumar for business purposes and both were kidnapped from the airport to an unknown place in Gurugram. The trader called his family around 11pm on the same day to arrange Rs 50 lakh in cash for his safe return. Vilvapathy’s family made a complaint to the local police in Tamil Nadu who contacted the STF, Haryana.

“On July 8, an information was received from higher officials of the Tamil Nadu Police to rescue two businessmen from the clutches of the kidnappers. The kidnappers were asking for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh in cash to release the above said two confined businessmen or else they threatened to kill them. To rescue them, the STF team started a search operation along with the help of the special cell of the Delhi Police. After rigorous efforts, the team was finally able to locate the kidnappers and carefully rescued the two businessmen and apprehended all five kidnappers from Shyam Nagar, under the Tilak Nagar police station, Delhi”, said B Satheesh Balan, IG, STF.

The arrested accused are identified as Asif Hussain, Mohammad Karim, natives of West Bengal, K Jirvani Babu, a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi, Mohmmad Azad, Sonu, residents of Vikas Nagar, Delhi.

“The mastermind behind the kidnapping is Jirwani Babu, who called himself Shiv Kumar and got in contact with the trader through a website of yarn trader. He claimed to deal in yarn business and showed interest in purchasing his huge stock of yarn. He also told him that a party from Bangladesh was waiting for the traders. We are questioning the accused and will hand them over to the Tamil Nadu Police for further action ”, said IG Balan.
