Kurukshetra, December 28

Minister of state for Sports and Youth affairs Sandeep Singh today said Haryana was marching ahead in sports and efforts should be made to keep up the good work.

He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the synthetic hockey Astroturf. It is to be built under the Khelo India Scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs And Sports at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore on the sports premises of Kurukshetra University on Tuesday.

Chief guest Sandeep Singh said a velodrome for cycling would also be built in Kurukshetra district. He said the Khelo India programme will start from February 5.

Kurukshetra MP Naib Singh Saini and Thanesar MLA Subhash Sudha were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, a north zone inter-university (women) hockey championship also started at the KU today. Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath said 35 teams we re participating in the championship.
