High drama prevailed in Indana village in Nuh district on Saturday when a police team conducted a raid in the village over a vehicle brought from Punjab.
When police took a suspect woman into custody, the villagers started pelting stones and firing into the air. No policeman was injured, but police vehicles were damaged in the stone pelting.
Additional force was called to the village after which police detained suspects from the spot. An FIR was registered at Bichor police station and the police arrested 13 persons, including three women. A police team has been deployed in the village to maintain peace.
According to the police, the raid was related to the case of a vehicle brought from Punjab in which Azad, Shahid and Shahrukh of Indana are said to be the accused. The team reached Azad's home at 11:30 am but the accused fled away. The women in his house misbehaved with the police. With the help of policewomen, one woman was taken into custody.
Seeing this, neighbours gathered and began pelting stones on the police team. They also fired into the air.
The arrested persons were identified as Shaukeen, Yunus, Javed, Nasir, Hafiz, Rihan, Mushtaq, Ajahruddin, Yusuf, Wazid, Naaima, Shaheena and Nazma.
There is tension in the village, but the police said that the situation is under control. “We are questioning the accused,” said inspector Jasveer, SHO of Bichor police station.
