The deceased was identified as Gurdeep Kaur, a resident of Patel Nagar. According to her family members, the woman was cleaning the street outside her house when she was attacked by a few stray cattle. She was rushed to a private hospital, where she was declared dead.

The deceased’s husband Varinder Singh said, “Dairy operators leave their cattle on the road after milking them. Despite repeated requests, the government has failed to take steps against the cattle menace in residential areas.”

Some neighbours tried to save the woman but to no avail. They said stray cattle keep roaming in the residential areas and many people have suffered injuries due to accidents involving these. The municipal council should shift the cattle to gaushalas. The removal of stray cattle from the residential colonies and roads has been a long-pending demand of the residents.

District Municipal Commissioner Vaishali Sharma said, “The sanitation inspector has been directed to ensure that all stray cattle are shifted to gaushalas. A strict warning is being issued to gaushala owners. Additionally, a tender process to shift stray cattle is also on. A tender was floated 15 days ago but no firm participated, so another tender has been floated.”
