Student found dead in hostel room, suicide suspected
A girl student of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI) was found dead in her hostel room on Friday afternoon, sending shockwaves among students, scientists and faculty members.
The deceased has been identified as Vaishali, a native of Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, and a second-year postgraduate student of Livestock Production and Management. As per the police, she was found hanging in her room and the incident is being treated as a suspected case of suicide.
The SHO, Civil Lines, Shri Bhagwan, said, “Initial evidence indicates that it is a suicide, though the exact reason behind the extreme step is yet to be determined. The student’s family has been informed and further investigation is in progress.”
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the crime scene investigation unit visited the hostel room to collect evidence. Preliminary findings revealed that Vaishali had taken food from the hostel mess on Thursday night but did not consume it as the meal was found untouched in her room.
Dr Dheer Singh, Director of the ICAR-NDRI, confirmed that the matter was under investigation by the police. He expressed his condolences and said the institute was fully cooperating with the authorities.
The incident comes just three days after a Class X student reportedly died by suicide after receiving a compartment in two subjects.
