Student shoots self at MDU Rohtak, critical

A Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) student at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) reportedly shot himself with a sports gun on the campus on Tuesday.

The student, identified as Sumit, was rushed to the trauma centre at PGIMS, where his condition remains critical. The motive behind the incident is still unknown and the police have launched an investigation. No case had been registered at the time of reporting.

“We received information around 1 pm that a student shot himself in the History Department block at the MDU. The investigation is ongoing,” said DSP Gulab Singh, speaking at the PGIMS.

Prof Rajesh Punia, Proctor at MDU, said the History Department staff immediately informed the police. Forensic experts also examined the scene and a sports gun was recovered from the spot.
