Students excel in regional contest

Kurukshetra: Five students of Gita Niketan Awasiya Vidyalaya — Abhijeet Raj, Ankush, Arnav Kumar, Rushil Dhingra and Vaibhav Sharma — exhibited their skills and brought laurels to the school by winning a cash prize of Rs 6,000 each in a competition organised by the Department of Post, Ministry of Communications, for students of classes VI to IX. Held under the Deen Dayal Sparsh Yojna at the regional level, the contest was held in two parts. First, a written quiz was conducted to test students’ knowledge about current affairs, history, science, culture, sports, geography and philately. In the second round, students selected on the basis of their performance in the quiz prepared a project on topics such as yoga, freedom movement, sports, Indian Army, postal history and birds. School principal Narayan Singh felicitated the winners and lauded their efforts.

CBSE National Science Exhibition

Gurugram: Over 500 schools across the country participated at the 3-day National Exhibition held at Suncity School, Sector 54, Gurugram. Entries from states, including Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh were received at the event. The theme of the exhibition was ‘Science and technology for sustainable development’ with a thrust on water conservation and had seven sub-themes such as sustainable agricultural practices, cleanliness and health, resource management, industrial development, future transport and communication, educational games and mathematical modelling. It showcased the exhibits/projects of winners at region-level from across the country. The exhibition aimed to encourage students to work towards sustainable development.

32ND KU COVOCATION ON JAN 22

Kurukshetra: The convocation ceremony of Kurukshetra University, to be held on January 22, will be inaugurated with an academic Shobha Yatra and chanting of the Gita. Like previous years, the shalokas from Taittiriya Upanishad-Shikshavalli will be chanted while bestowing degrees to 2,384 students. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will be the chief guest at the 32nd convocation of KU, while Governor Satya Deo Narain will preside over the function. Students can register online to participate in the convocation, till January 18. The information of the students who will take part in the convocation ceremony has been uploaded on the website. The KU administration is also setting up a selfie corner outside the auditorium hall for the students.

Placement drive at CUH

Mahendragarh: A placement drive was organised by SRF Limited, a Chemicals Technology Group, Gurugram, at Central University of Haryana (CUH) here for MSc (chemistry) students. Vice-Chancellor Prof RC Kuhad said 20 students from Chemistry Department appeared in the written exam and eight out of them were selected for placement after an interview. He said the selected students were offered Rs 4.5 lakh salary package.

2-day National Incubators Colloquium

Hisar: Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University organised a two-day National Incubators Colloquium at an auditorium of Home Science College. Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Jai Parkash Dalal was the chief guest and National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management Vice-Chancellor Chindi Vasudevappa was the guest of honour. Dalal stated that the Agri Business Incubation Center started in Haryana Agricultural University was playing an essential role towards starting agro based enterprises. He inaugurated and observed the exhibition of startups set up by ABIC. Dalal said HAU was proving to be a boon for small farmers who were unable to market their produce. He said agriculture had become technology based and it was necessary to extend the benefits of technology to the youth of rural area.

New PG diploma at Ashok varsity

Sonepat: Young India Fellowship, a one-year multi-disciplinary residential post graduate diploma programme of Ashoka University in Sonepat is now open for second round of admissions, which will close on February 2, for the 10th cohort of the liberal studies programme. The third and final phase of applications to the programme will begin on February 3 and will end on March 31. According to university’s PRO, candidates who have a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline (final-year candidates as well) and are less than 28 years of age on July 15, are eligible to apply. Candidates may have a work experience also.
